OKUMA METNİ 1 — A Different Kind of Study Space

Last semester, Westbridge University converted an unused library room into a collaborative study space with movable tables, whiteboards and charging points. Unlike silent reading rooms, students can discuss assignments and work in groups.

Before opening, staff surveyed 600 students. Many struggled to find places for group projects because cafés were noisy and expensive, while classrooms were not always available.

During the first eight weeks, approximately 900 students used the space. Some complained that conversations disturbed a nearby quiet area. In response, the library installed sound-absorbing panels and moved bookings away from the shared wall.

The university will keep the space but collect further feedback, since attendance alone cannot demonstrate better learning or project outcomes.

Recorded lectures let students review difficult topics, pause explanations and study flexibly. They particularly benefit students working part-time or studying in a second language.
